The Season That Almost Wasn't

With Melbourne and Victoria in the grip of a drought, and after a particularly dry summer, the Football Federation Victoria, together with the local councils, held talks to discuss the forthcoming season.

The local council banned the club from using Anderson Park, its home ground, and Donvale Reserve, its usual training venue, until further notice due to the state of the grounds. Therefore, it was almost impossible to organise teams and training and no-one was sure when the season would start, if at all.

Eventually, after some late Summer/early Autumn rains, the season was given the go-ahead, to start only a week or so later than usual on 6th May.

The Under 16 Superleague team, mainly the team from the previous season, had been training unofficially. The rest were divided into two teams. I won't go into the politics of it here, but the selection wasn't merit-based and these two teams were entered into the FFV East Region 16 'A' and 'B' leagues.

The following is the diary of the Doncaster Rovers 16 'B' League team 2007 season.
