North Caulfield and Knox City put on a high-scoring game at Caulfield Park with North Caulfield running out 5-3 winners. The biggest win of the day was Ringwood City 5-1 over Sherbrooke Rangers. Other winners on opening day were Ashburton, 2-1 winners at Boronia, and Richmond, 1-0 over Mooroolbark.
