Goals: Ian Branch, Dominic Curulli (pen)
It was a disappointing result for Rovers as Ashburton picked up the three points at Anderson Park on Sunday. A spectacular strike gave Ashburton the lead after 15 minutes. Five minutes later, Rovers equalised after Trevor Bird hit the post and Ian Branch bundled home the ball from close range. In an end to end game, Ashburton added two more goals to take a 3-1 lead, with Michael Kil having to be substituted after a heavy challenge.
Just before half-time, Trevor Bird broke into the box and was brought down from behind. Dominic Curulli stepped up and drove the penalty to the keeper's right. The Ashburton keeper got his hand to the ball but couldn't keep it out leaving Rovers just a goal behind at the break. In the second half, Robert Rasic moved to centre-half and the change tightened up the Rovers defence. In an even second half, Rovers went close through Ben Vernes, Trevor Bird and Ian Branch but Ashburton added another to leave the final score at 2-4.
Rovers now face two tough games with Knox City away then table-toppers North Caulfield at home.
